As excited as I am about Lady G's upcoming album, I may be even more thrilled about her cover collab with Koons! Neo-pop artist, Jeff Koons is known for transforming ordinary objects into oversized, shiny, steel sculptures in reflective colors. What fascinates me most about the self-proclaimed "idea man," is that he has a team of technicians and craftsman who are responsible for constructing his creations. Koons states,
"Art is really just communication of something and the more archetypal it is, the more communicative it is."
To me, the ability to communicate one's ideas with others is an art form in itself, requiring not only a clear vision, but an unwaivering trust in the individuals involved. Whether a balloon animal sculpture from his Celebration series, or a Popeye-themed painting, I find Koons' work uplifting and vibrant, bringing a shiny spirit to today's kitsch culture.
