It's always been my dream to sketch live at runway shows... to be seated at the grand venues where collections are introduced to buyers, editors, and any industry insider lucky enough to be granted an invitation. Paris Fashion Week is a particularly magical occasion as the dreamy city streets transform into a runway themselves, teeming with models, photographers, and lavishly adorned ladies posing poshly in their couture.
With the help of Vogue's It Girl, Sofia Sanchez Barrenechea (who I have nicknamed my Fairy Godmother of Fashion Week), I had the pleasure of sketching John Galliano's Fall 2013 Collection as the models marched the circular runway at Le Centorial. A tricky task indeed. After the ten minute show, my sketchbook was filled with pages of squiggles and scribbles and shapes and lines, most of which made no sense to my poor overwhelmed mind. Playing fill-in-the-blanks post-show, I was able to piece together my pencil madness to create my first live runway illustration (shown above)... TA-DAA!!
